The 2015 Tanglewood season includes an exciting list of guest artists, such as Yo Yo Ma, Emmanuel Ax, Joshua Bell, Bryn Terfel, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, the Mark Morris Dance Company, Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Diana Krall, A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, and Huey Lewis and the News!
Only recently announced, the 2015 Tanglewood season is especially action-packed as this year sees both the inaugural season of Boston Symphony Orchestra Music Director Andris Nelsons and the 75th anniversary of the Tanglewood Music Center. Running from June 20 through the first weekend in September, Labor Day, the 2015 Tanglewood season promises to entertain and delight with programs from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Tanglewood’s popular artist series, and many special events.
In celebration of its 75th anniversary season, Tanglewood Music Center has commissioned over 30 new works, with Andris Nelsons leading a performance of Mahler’s Symphony no. 8 on August 8th, which will be available free as a live webcast from bso.org. Free, weekly downloads of performances from Tanglewood’s 75-year performance history will also be made available online. Other 75th anniversary attractions include an archival exhibit at the Tanglewood visitors center and commemorative program books on the center’s lengthy and fascinating history available online and at the center.
A new honorary title for the 2015 Tanglewood season, Koussevitzky Artist, has been awarded to Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax for both their multidimensional commitments to the 2015 season as well teaching and performing at Tanglewood for more than 30 years. As part of this honor, they will perform together in a recital of the Complete Sonatas for Cello and Piano by Beethoven in the Koussevitzky Music Shed on Aug. 9.
Maestro Andris Nelsons is scheduled to lead six Tanglewood programs, four BSO concerts, selections from Verdi’s opera Otello, two Strauss tone poems, works of Mendelssohn, Beethoven, and Barber, programs featuring Christian Tetzlaff, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Renaud CapuÇon, Gautier CapuÇon, and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture as part of Tanglewood on Parade.

Aug. 6 – all-Brahms program with Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, and Leonidas Kavakos
Aug. 9 – Charles Dutoit and Joshua Bell
