Last post we told you about the Norman Rockwell Museum – this time around we’ll take a look at how Norman Rockwell’s famous painting, “Stockbridge Main Street At Christmas,” comes to life every December in the Berkshires!
As previously noted, Norman Rockwell not only spent his last years and left his collection in trust in Stockbridge, MA, he also used a lot of the town’s quintessential, New England ambiance in many of his works – most notably and obviously in the famous painting “Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas.”
In honor of this beautiful work of art by this amazing illustrator and one-time resident, Stockbridge holds an annual Christmas celebration in which they recreate the mid-50’s scene of “Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas,” complete with vintage automobiles, holiday decorations, and more for you to visit and explore.
The 25th anniversary of the Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas weekend includes such activities and attractions as Christmas-themed readings, holiday house tours, caroling, horse drawn rides, a holiday concert, and of course, a visit from Santa. The 25th anniversary weekend of the annual Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas weekend finishes up on Sunday, December 7th, with a recreation of the scene depicted in Rockwell’s famous painting – and you can be in it!

Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas Lodging
Much of the attraction of the Berkshires is the area’s seeming timelessness. Stockbridge has changed little since Rockwell’s famous painting and the town is not alone. The special ambiance that draws so many to the Berkshires can best be felt with lodging not in some impersonal hotel or motel but in the lush and carefully selected accommodations of a Berkshires bed and breakfast like the Federal House Inn: a stately and beautifully restored, 1824 mansion. Continue the timeless feeling of your Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas Weekend in the Berkshires with a stay at the Federal House Inn!
